The former One Direction member pulled out a bottle of Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa Cough Syrup during British Vogue’s In My Bag video segment.

British singer Zayn Malik calls pi pa gao his “special elixir”. The former One Direction member was the latest celebrity to join British Vogue’s In The Bag series, where stars show, as the name suggests, what’s in their bag.

In the YouTube video posted on Wednesday (Jun 5), Malik, 31, pulled out a bottle of Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa Cough Syrup, a popular Chinese herbal syrup better known as pi pa gao to many Singaporeans.

He introduced it as “a honey from China that is ridiculously good for your vocal cords”, adding: “I take this everywhere I go, especially if I’m singing.”

Malik also shared that he mixes it with a bit of water before drinking it

Many netizens seemed surprised that Malik knew about pi pa gao, while others pointed out that pi pa gao was a cough syrup and not honey.

One user joked in a TikTok video of the clip: “He knows the good stuff … price about to sky rocket”. Another wrote: “pipagao getting a global shoutout wasn’t on my 2024 list.”

Other items in Malik’s Fendi duffel bag include his go-to fragrance Viking by Creed, gaming console Steam Deck, Fruit-tella candy and The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran.

“I like to read poetry quite a bit, because I feel like it refines the mind,” explained the singer-songwriter as he took out the book.

“Being a writer, I think it’s very fitting for me to always be reading different things, just to improve my own intellect.”

Malik released his fourth studio record Room Under The Stairs on May 17. In previous interviews, he said the album gives “more insight on (him) personally as a human being”.He co-parents three-year-old Khai with American model Gigi Hadid. They officially broke up in 2021.
