Legendary R&B singer and Philadelphia native Frankie Beverly has sadly passed away at the age of 77.

On the morning of September 11, 2024, Frankie Beverly’s family shared the heartbreaking news of his passing on Instagram. Since then, they have spoken out, eulogizing the singer and reflecting on his impactful life and enduring legacy.

The Instagram post Beverly’s family made confirmed that the singer, born Howard Stanley Beverly, died on Monday, September 10, 2024. It read, “He lived his life with pure soul as one would say, and for us, no one did it better. He lived for his music, family and friends.”

The family has not disclosed details about Beverly’s death and has requested privacy during this difficult time. They encouraged people to “love one another,” stating that it’s what he would have wanted for everyone.

The family said they are focused on healing and appreciated the respect for their need for solitude as they honor the memory of Beverly. They wrote, “Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal and emotional experience.”

Born in Philadelphia, Beverly was so impressed by 50’s R&B group Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers that he decided to change his name to Frankie.

The singer spent some time creating and singing with other groups before ultimately catching the ear of Marvin Gaye. Gaye convinced him to change his then-band’s name from Raw Soul to Maze and in 1977 helped them release their first album, “Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly.”
