A mix of a drone and a missile, that’s the best way to describe the Ukrainian troops’ newest acquisition.

“Yesterday our new weapon was successfully used for the first time: a Ukrainian long-range missile drone of the type ‘Palianytsia,’” Zelensky announced Sunday on Facebook.

took more than a year and a half to develop this particular weapon. According to Zelenski, this hybrid weapon can be used, among other things, to attack airfields from which Russian warplanes and bombers take off toward Ukraine.

“It is domestically designed to destroy the offensive potential of the enemy,” the Ukrainian president said. Where exactly the Palianytsia has already been deployed, Zelenski did not reveal. But military experts suspect that the Palianytsia would have been first used in the shelling of an ammunition depot in Russia’s Voronezh region. Also about the range of the Palianytsia, Zelensky remains silent for now. But the Ukrainian president did stress that production of the weapon will soon be stepped up.
